It sounds so simple, but it can be so hard. I believe that the same principle should apply to our lives, if you fall…get back up. If life brings you to your knees, say a prayer and get back up swinging. I don’t know about you, but that’s the only reason that I’m still standing today. Everytime I got knocked down, I was determined to get back up because I knew that God still had and has more for me to do. Even when I didn’t feel like I had the strength to keep going, He got me back on my feet and pushed me onward.
I remember when my goddaughter was learning how to walk, she would fall down from time to time…but she always got back up because she was determined to get to what, or who she wanted. If she felt hurt or embarrassed (she’s a bit of a drama queen), she’d cry for a little bit…but she’d eventually get up and keep going. If her little legs were tired, she might slow down…or even crawl if she had to…but she was determined to get to what she’d set her sights on.
For me, that seems really similar to my walk as a Christian. Every once in awhile I might fall (because I don’t always get it right), or I might even get knocked down…but I’ll always get back up and keep going. I’ll crawl if I have to, but nothing in this world, and no ploy from the enemy is going to keep me from following God and moving forward.
Psalm 3:3-6 says: But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
Some reasons that we might fall could be because we tried to take on too much, or we thought we do everything in our own strength and stopped asking God for help. I’m so glad though, that He is the lifter of my head..and that when we call on Him that He answers us and sustains us. I don’t know who told you that you had to do it all by yourself, but you don’t! You can’t get there by yourself, because truth be told you don’t even understand the fullness of what it is that God has for you to do…much less how to get where you’re going. However as you trust Him to lead you, trust Him to guide you, and give everything over to Him…He’ll bring you to where you need to be.
Psalm 54:4 says: Surely God is my help, the Lord is The One who sustains me.
I’m so thankful that not only is He our help, but I truly believe that He places people in our path so that we don’t have to do life alone. The thing is, you have to check that the crew your hanging with is comprised of people that He sent. Get yourself around some people that are passionate about serving God too, that have ambition, goals, and are tenacious. If you keep hanging around people that are content to stay down when they get knocked down, sooner or later you’ll be cool with it too. Our God is not a God of mediocrity. Just getting by, or just making it won’t do. He specializes in overflow, and exceedingly, and abundantly above more than you can ask or think. So maybe it’s time that you start dreaming bigger, and allow Him to stretch you and your faith. Trust Him!
So this morning, even if you fell down, today’s a good day to get back up and get back in the fight. It’s your destiny that’s on the line, so keep going and trust God to fufill His promises in your life. Amen.
