How To Look Expensive And Make A Statement
I feel like sometimes when looking expensive is discussed, how to do it and make a statement is skipped over. So here I am in my Duckie Confetti satin money print pajama’s, from the Black Is King Beyonce Collaborative shop to break it down. The set has since sold out on Beyonce’s site but is available to purchase as separates on the Duckie Confetti website.
As The Style and Beauty Plug, looking expensive on a budget is my specialty. Bougie, but make it budget-friendly. I love to experiment with different looks, but the way that I make them work for me is by staying true to my aesthetic. Some of my style icons include women like Kimora Lee Simmons (the OG of fabulosity), Beyonce, Victoria Beckham, Rihanna. No matter what I’m wearing, it has to fit my vibe. I want to give fashion, femininity, and luxury while doin’ it for the culture. That’s actually what inspired the name of my blog.
Don’t Be Afraid To Make A Statement
Fashion is supposed to be fun, so don’t be afraid to make a statement. Bold colors, bold prints, whatever floats your boat. When you want to elevate your look, try to make sure your outfit is only making one statement at a time though. If you’re trying to be more adventurous, try dipping your toe into a statement heel or boot.
Or even a statement jacket, over a neutral outfit.
The key is, to make sure that all the elements of your look come together to make ONE STATEMENT. If there’s too much going on, it’s kind of like when too many people are talking to you at once. It’s hard to figure out what’s going on. If you’re going to wear a statement piece, do that. If you’re going for a statement look, do that. Just keep it to one statement overall.
If there’s anything y’all should know about me by now, it’s that I’m never scuured lol. Which would be why I’m 100% comfortable running the town in these satin money print pajamas. Also, I HAD to have them after I saw Beyonce in them in Black Is King.
4 Reasons Why This Look Works
Stay Neutral
The tones of this look center around earth-tone neutrals. Outfits featuring a neutral color palette (especially if you’re serving a monochromatic look) always tend to look a little more expensive, but earth-tone neutrals? That’s the secret sauce. While yes the pattern of this outfit is a $100 bill, the colors utilized are tan, green, and gray.
If you’re going to play with a bold print, try to keep the rest of your look neutral. Or, you can pick a color from the print and use that to accentuate your look.
Bring Glamour Back
The fact that these are satin pajamas, elevates the overall look. If these were made out of more basic material, that wouldn’t be the case. The shine makes it feel a bit more luxurious and looks more appropriate for a fun dressy occasion. The pictures don’t even do it justice, you have to check out the video on my Instagram to see how beautiful the fabric is. It’s giving less PJ’s, and more satin suit. So I styled it like a suit. You gotta have the vision to style it according to your look, and not the product description.
If you’re going to play with a fun or bold print, and you want to look expensive, try to find a way to make it feel glam. Maybe it’s by incorporating a sexy heel, or classically glam jewelry (like a rhinestone tennis bracelet).
Fit
This set is cut really well, so it moves and flows well when I’m walking. Also, the fact that it has a belt, allows me to accentuate my waist. No matter what you decide to experiment with, make sure it fits you well. Anytime clothing is ill-fitting, it takes the whole look down a couple of notches.
Gold accessories
Gold accessories always look more expensive. I opted for a gold nameplate necklace, that I scored for $10 years ago on Ali Express. It still looks like new. I also decided to bring my rhinestone money clutch back out, because at this point why not LOL. It works because it mimics the pattern of my outfit and the color palette. Also, it has a gold chain, so overall it complements and doesn’t compete with my outfit. To finish off my look, I added my fave gold metallic evening sandals from Simmi London.
They stick with the theme of gold accessories, and because it’s a simple shoe style it doesn’t compete with my outfit. All I needed was a hint of something gold to keep the look together, and the Whitney heels delivered.
So there you have it, a few of the things I keep in mind when I’m styling a statement look and I want it to feel expensive.
