So you waited too long to get that piece you’ve been eyeing, and now it’s sold out? Don’t worry sis. I’ll help you figure out how to track it down.
I’ve been wanting some thigh-high snakeskin boots for a minute. I had a very specific vision in mind. Not knee-high, but definitely thigh-high (a fall fashion must-have) because I wanted a sexy look when I rocked them with a mini dress or oversized sweatshirt as a dress.
Not just any color palette, but stone and black to set off this fire trench coat that I found online at ASOS. I love the leather accents on the sides and collar. It also comes in a tall option if you feel like that would work better for you. For reference, I’m a tall girl and the regular size works just fine for me.
Where To Start
Whenever I’m looking for a specific kind of item, I do my googles. I literally google a description of the item (in this case, thigh-high snakeskin boots), and check out the image results to point me towards store search results. I tend to have better results with this approach, then with looking at the “shopping” results.
When I googled for snakeskin thigh-high boots, I found my dream pair. “Dominique” by Steve Madden. Unfortunately, I seemed to be about a year too late, as they were sold out everywhere and it looked like the ad promos were about a year old.
Dead end? Not quite.
Whenever I come across an item that I want that’s sold out, I set an alert to be notified when it’s back in stock. If I’m not able to do that on the stores website, I use my trusty Shoptagr to add it to my wishlist so that I’m notified when my size is back or if it goes on sale.
In this case, while I was able to add the boots to my Shoptagr, they were sold OUT out everywhere. I searched around online for more options, but none of them were just right. So, what now?
Still can’t find it? Try this
I decided to try my luck on Poshmark. I’ve sold pieces there in the past, but I’d never purchased anything from there myself. After a quick search, I was able to find my elusive sold out boots in my size and listed with a “new with tags” condition. Score.
I ordered my boots from a seller with great reviews, and I was definitely not disappointed. In the past when I haven’t been able to find the item I’d wanted, I’ve also purchased from eBay sellers. The key is I always look for a seller with good reviews, plenty of other previous sales, pictures of the item (though I will say with these boots, only promotional pics from Steve Madden were posted), and for the condition to read “new” or “unworn.” It’s important to know what you’re getting.
From sold out to secured
Tracking down a sold out item takes a lot of patience, and planning. I will say that when you do find it in your size, don’t wait too long to snap it up as others are probably looking for it too. Sorry to the other ladies in the comments on my boots listing, but a girl had to do what a girl had to do haha.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to track down a sold out item? Let me know in the comments!
Stylishly Yours,
