I love to read, but as a woman on the go, I don’t always have a lot of time to sit down and curl up with a good book. This is why I love listening to audiobooks because I’m able to listen to the books that I’ve been wanting to read while doing other things (cleaning, working out at the gym, eating lunch at work, driving home, etc). This also allows me to finish the books faster because I don’t have to put them down while I go do other stuff (like workout at the gym, drive, etc). Issa win. My go-to for audiobooks is Audible, and I currently have like 18 titles in my library.
Here are 3 audiobooks that I’ve listened to, that put me up on game
Everyday Millionaires: How Ordinary People Built Extraordinary Wealth, and You Can Too – Chris Hogan
As I talked about in a recent blog post, financial literacy is super important to me. I’ve learned a lot about money management from Dave Ramsey, and I really like to listen to Chris Hogan (a member of the Ramsey team as well) as well.
In his book Everyday Millionaires, Hogan talks about the things that everyday people have done to become millionaires (without being born into wealth, hitting the lottery, etc.). Did you know that engineers, accountants, and teachers are the top 3 jobs that everyday millionaires have? Neither did I, until I read this book. Hogan wrote this book after studying 10,000 millionaires which is the largest study of millionaires ever done and breaks down the behaviors and habits that they all seemed to share overall.
Everyday Millionaires seems to be the modern-day update to The Millionaire Next Door, which I had previously started reading but honestly couldn’t get through as it felt outdated and unrelatable for me. Everyday Millionaires was the first financial book that I read, which made me feel like building generational wealth could be super attainable for me. So if you’ve been out here googling: how to become a millionaire, here you go sis.
Never Split The Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It – Chris Voss
I wanted to learn more about negotiation, as I felt like it was an important adulting skill. Whether you’re negotiating a raise, negotiating with a brand as an influencer, or just need to learn how to get more of what you need without taking an L, this audiobook is for you.
Never Split The Difference is written by Chris Voss, who is a former FBI Hostage negotiator. If there’s anybody’s audiobook that I’m going to listen to about how to negotiate, it’s definitely going to be one by a former hostage negotiator. In his book, Voss discusses some of his former negotiation situations (and honestly, I need him to write a book on those alone because they were WILD. From bank robberies to situations on the other side of the world) and teaches us how to apply some of his principles to everyday situations like dealing with your boss.
One of my main takeaways from his book is to stop approaching situations with the idea of meeting in the middle, and both giving up something to arrive at a fair deal. Never split the difference. Get what you came for, and nothing less. After this book, you’ll never think of a mirror the same way again.
No Excuses – Brian Tracy
When you’ve got a lot going on, it can be hard to manage it all. It’s super important to prioritize, be realistic about what you can handle, and also to be honest with yourself about what your priorities actually are. In his book, Tracy talks in detail about the importance of self discipline and how you can’t make excuses for yourself.
My main takeaway from this book was that I needed to stop making excuses for reasons why I wasn’t getting around to things that I “wanted” to do or that were “priorities” for me. For example, as a content creator, I always have lots of ideas that I want to work on but there was a period of time where I wasn’t as productive because I was “too busy” or “too tired” to film, edit, take pictures, etc. Now was I legitimately busy? Yes, I was a triple major in college and worked two part-time jobs to help pay for school. However, I realized that if something was important to me I would make time for it.
School and work were certainly priorities for me, but if I spent less time watching Netflix or hanging out on the weekends I could create and then get much-needed rest (because: self care). If you re-evaluate how you spend your time, you might just find time to do some of the things you’ve been too busy to…and if not, don’t make excuses. Either do it, or don’t and have peace about whatever you decide. Whew. Did that drag you like it dragged me?
So there you have it guys, 3 audiobooks that every boss babe should listen to. What are you currently reading? Do you like to listen to audiobooks? Let me know in the comments!
Stylishly Yours,
Theresa Seyi
