This could be TMI, but ya girl has heavy periods. Sometimes it takes a tampon and a pad to keep me feeling safe and secure, and even then I might risk a leak. Laying down at night is the worst because I know no matter what I’ll wake up to seeing leaks. That was until I finally invested in some period panties, and they have been a game-changer for me.
What are period panties?
My period panties of choice are by the brand Thinx, and they are basically panties that absorb everything from your period. This way you don’t have to wear a pad or tampon, just the period panties. When I first heard about them, I wasn’t sure if I could trust it. I was scared that they wouldn’t be absorbent enough, and I might still leak through. I bought my first pair to wear under my birthday dress earlier in the year, which was a sheer white dress so this was risky (I still wore a pad because trust issues, but quickly discovered a pad was incredibly unnecessary. Now I only wear the panties).
I purchased the Thinx Super Hiphuggers (Retail: $39, USD), as their super absorbent and can hold 4 tampons worth of fluids. They basically have padding built into them, that absorbs everything from your period. The padding is thick enough to absorb everything, but not so thick that you feel like you’re wearing a diaper. Also, it’s not detectable if you’re concerned about somebody being able to feel the padding through whatever you’re wearing. Thinx makes a variety of period panties for different flows, and they also make Speax panties for those who experience bladder leaks. I recently purchased 3 more pairs of the Thinx Super Hiphuggers during their sale, because they are a staple in my period survival kit.
Why I love them
I love my Super Hiphuggers because they are as super absorbent as they claim, and I’ve NEVER experienced any type of leakage when I’ve worn them or slept in them. They’re also moisture absorbant and odor wicking, so you don’t feel or smell anything either. To care for them, I rinse them by hand first, then machine wash them (cold water) and hang them to dry per the Thinx instructions. You cannot iron them, or use products like bleach or fabric softener on them at all.
I’m literally able to wear these period panties all day without having to worry about leaking, and that is super important to me. Especially on my heavy days. I also find them to be pretty true to size, so if you use their size chart you should be able to easily determine your size.
If you’ve been looking to a more leakproof and absorbent option for your flow, I definitely recommend trying out these period panties by Thinx. If you use this referral link you’ll get $10 off your purchase (and ya girl gets $10 off hers, so we both win).
Have you ever tried period panties? What was your experience? Let me know in the comments!
