Which Is Better For Heatless Curls? Flexirods Vs. Heatless Curling Rod
If you’ve been wondering if flexirods or a heatless curling rod were better for maintaining your curls overnight, I tested both so you don’t have to. I recently got a sew in, and I want to find the best way to wrap it at night to maintain my curls (as pictured above). While I’m no stranger to flexirods, I’d never tried a heatless curling rod. I tried both in my hair for heatless overnight curls, and I think I found the method I like best.
Check out my TikTok below to see my results from doing heatless overnight curls both ways!
Satin Flexirods
When I got my first silk press, I purchased these satin jumbo flexi rods by Kitsch. While I have tons of regular flexirods, I like that these are satin-wrapped to help prevent breakage. This set comes with four jumbo flexirods. I liked how these maintained the curls in the front of my hair better (I have a side part in my hairstyle) so I plan to continue using these.
Kitsch also makes these satin flexirods in a smaller set of six. You can get both sets on Amazon or from Ulta.
Satin Heatless Curling Rod
I’ve seen a few of the girls on TikTok wrap their hair using longer heatless curling rods, so I wanted to see how it compared to flexi rods. While this was easier to sleep in, it didn’t maintain the curls near my side part as well as a single flexirod in that area. I feel like the heatless curling rod works best on styles with a middle part.
Also, this heatless curling set comes with scrunchies to hold the ends of the rod but they made the ends of my hair look a little messy when I took them out.

And The Winner Is…
For me, the winner is the satin flexirods. They maintained the curls in my hairstyle better, and the ends of my hair looked smoother when I removed them.
