When Beyoncé (Giselle-Knowles Carter) said “if you don’t jump to put jeans on, baby you don’t feel my pain” baby, I FELT THAT.
I’m a tall girl, and I have a curvy shape. Thick athletic thighs (thanks to all those years of dance and gymnastics), and I ain’t even ‘gon hold you the peach be peaching. While these are all great things for my self-love parade, these are things that make it harder to find a good pair of jeans. I need them to be long enough to not look like a flood is coming, stretchy enough to come up over my thighs and booty, and not have that gap in the back once I get them on. They also have to pass the sit, squat, and twerk test.
This is clearly a tall order, and only the best of the best jeans can accommodate all of my needs. They also need to be affordable, and good quality, because I’m not about to be replacing them every other month sis.
I’ve searched high and low, and I have three options that are my favorite affordable jeans for big booty girls.
Option One
First up is the Shaping Jeans Collection from H&M, which typically retail for around $49.99 (to be clear I’m not referring to their Push Up Jeans or the Embrace jeans, the latter of which fit well at first but tend to lose their shape after a few hours. I’m talking about the jeans that specifically have “Shaping” in their product name). Bear in mind that H&M has a plethora of coupons ranging from their conscious initiative where you can donate old clothing in exchange for a coupon for 15% off your purchase, to their Uniday’s Student Discount, and their H&M Loyalty Progam discount offerings.
These jeans come in a couple of different inseam options, and a variety of washes and colors. They’re super stretchy and don’t lose their shape throughout the day, or after multiple washes. The only issue is that they seem to be harder to come by recently. I’m not sure if they’re being phased out, but I certainly hope not. If you’re able to get your hands on a pair online or in-store, jump on it sis and thank me later.
Option Two
Next up is my recent discovery (which I shared on my Instagram stories):
Zara’s Super Elastic Jeans (Retail: $35.90). That’s it. That’s the tweet.
I needed to find an alternative to the Shaping Jeans since I was struggling to find them, so I went to Zara.
I found their Super Elastic Jeans in store, scanned them in the app to find my size, and bought what was suggested. When I tried them on at home, I was so pleasantly surprised that I immediately ordered a second pair online. On the site, they’re called “Super Elastic Hi-Rise Jeggings” but they do honestly look more like well-fitting jeans in my opinion than a legging. Featuring a skinny leg, and high waist, these jeans hug the curves in all the right places. They’re also super duper stretchy, and easy to pull on. The material feels so soft and comfortable, and they come in a few different colors (various blue denim washes, grey, black, and white). Lengthwise they hit me around my ankle, but they don’t look like high waters so it works. Now while these jeans are super stretchy, they don’t hold their shape throughout the day which is disappointing.
Option Three
After discovering that the Zara super elastic jeans did not hold their shape, I needed to find a pair that did. Baby, the Jamie Jeans from TopShop tick all my boxes. They are super stretchy, they don’t gap at the waist, AND they hold their shape all day long. They wash really well too! They come in a bunch of different sizes and lengths, and I find that the 34″ length works best for me.
These have become my new go-to jeans, and I’ve slowly started replacing the other jeans in my closet with the Jamie Jeans.
So there you have it ladies, two of my favorite jean options in my closet for us big booty girls. If you have some recommendations as well, please drop them in the comments below so that I can check them out!
Stylishly Yours,
Theresa Seyi
