DIY Christmas Ribbon Top

I wanted to make a cute holiday top out of Christmas ribbon, and I found the perfect ribbon at Walmart. They have some beautiful ribbons out with their Christmas collections this year. I love this 15 ft rich red velvet ribbon with gold detailing (Retail $12.98). It also comes in gold and emerald green. Check out my TikTok tutorial below to see how I used it to make my top!

I knew I needed a tube top or something to create the structure for the top, so I ordered a red one from SheIn for around $4. I got it in a size small.

How I Made My Christmas Ribbon Top

1. I started by cutting enough ribbon to wrap flat around the very top of the tube top, and tie it into a bow. I wanted the bow to help add structure for the tube top, and cover where I’m adding more ribbon to actually wrap around myself.
2. I safety pinned the ribbon into place so I could go back and sew it down.
3. I unrolled the rest of the ribbon, and safety pinned one end directly under the part I just attached. This way I could use this next section to wrap around the rest of my top and ensure it would lay flat over my chest, etc. That’s the most challenging part.
4. I tacked the ribbon onto the top using invisible thread, in all the places where I placed safety pins. For example, I sewed it down in 3-4 spots at the very top and not the entire way across.

I love how my Christmas ribbon top came out! I might just wear this to the Mariah Carey Christmas concert.
