I’ve been getting more adventurous with my hairstyles this summer, and trying more crochet hairstyles instead of sticking to my wigs. This time, I’m trying boho french curl braids (but crochet!). I love the look of french curl braids (and wore them A LOT when I was younger), but I don’t love sitting for long periods to get my hair braided. I found some pre-braided french curl hair by Model Model, and that’s what my sister used to help me achieve this hairstyle. Here’s how we did it!
What Hair Did I Use?
French Curl Braids
For the french curl braids, I used Model Model Glance 4X Bouncy French Curl Braid 24. I got it in the color 3T427613, which is a nice blend that ends in a platinum blonde shade. This is synthetic hair that’s pre-braided and pre-looped so it can be easily crocheted into your hair. The hair is 24 inches long, and for some reason, the only place I can find it available is at Hair Stop and Shop. That’s where I ordered mine, and they require you to purchase ten packages per color of this hair.
We used roughly three packages of this hair for my whole head (mainly because this hair is quite heavy). My sister installed it using a hair beader, which is gentler than the OG crochet hooks.
Boho Hair Pieces
For The Boho pieces, I went to the beauty supply and got one pack of synthetic french curl hair. Specifically the 3X French Curl Braid 22″ by Freetress in the color 613. It retailed for $8.99 at my local beauty supply store. I also found it for $6.99 a pack at Sam’s Beauty.
How To MAintain the Boho Hair Pieces
I’ve never had a boho hairstyle before, but from what I’ve heard in the internet streets…they can tangle quickly if not properly maintained. Especially if you’re not using human hair. I came across a TikTok by @BraidedByShonda where she showed how to prepare your synthetic boho style with a curl-defining mouse, braiding gel, and oil sheen.
For some reason the oil sheen is wayyyy cheaper in-store (you can find it in your local beauty supply store, Walmart, Target, and Sally Beauty) but I linked what I used for reference.
Since I have quite a few packs of their hair left over, I’ll be doing it again before summer ends. Have you worn any crochet hairstyles this summer? What’s your go-to look? Let me know below in the comments!
Stylishly Yours,
Theresa Seyi
