The Tortoise Nails Everyone Is Wearing: Here’s the Easy DIY Press-On Version
BTArtBox gifted me nails from their new tortoiseshell nail collection to use for this tutorial. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The tortoise nail design has been a huge trend this fall. However, if you’re not a DIY nail art girlie, you might not be sure how to get the look at home. This new tortoiseshell nail collection from BTArtBox comes with the nail art already done for you. So you can easily get the look at home for the low. I decided to add some metallic gold nail art to these nails to customize them.
Check out my TikTok tutorial below to see how I applied these nails, customized them, and prepped them to stay locked in with the new nail glue from BTArtBox (currently on day six, with no pop-offs!).
The Nails I Used
BTArtBox sent me their long stiletto tortoiseshell nails from their new collection. The set comes with three nail cards, allowing you to create three nail sets from a single box. You can either apply as is (be sure to add builder gel and top coat!), or you can choose to customize them with some nail art like I did.
Where To Buy These Nails
You can purchase these tortoiseshell nails here on Amazon or here on the BTArtBox Nails website. They’re currently on sale for Black Friday, so now is a great time to try them and switch up your look.
They come in Other Shapes & Styles Too!
The new tortoise nails from BTArtBox come in a bunch of shapes and lengths. From long stiletto to short and square, there’s something for every preference.
Builder Gel & Top Coat
Since the tortoise nail design is already done for us, it’s really easy to use these nails to make press ons. After wiping them down with rubbing alcohol, I applied one coat of BTArtBox builder gel and top coat. I cured each coat for 60 seconds under my nail lamp.
How I Did The Gold Nail Art
I decided to add some metallic gold nail art to these nails to customize them. Using this this gold glitter gel nail art paint and a nail art brush, I outlined some of the nails, and also attempted spider nail art.
How I Make My Press On Nails Last
I try to make sure I prep my natural nails well, to make sure my press on nails stay on as long as possible. This time, I wanted to figure out how to add nail strengthener to the mix, to maintain the health of my natural nails under my press ons. Also, I wanted to test out the new nail glue BTArtBox recently dropped.
I typically leave mine on for a week, so I wanted to make sure my nails lasted at least a week using both of those products. I’m currently writing this blog post on day six with no pop offs or loose nails. So, it’s safe to say it worked.
My Nail Prep Routine
I started by applying the Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover to remove my cuticles using wooden cuticle pushers. After I washed it off, I wiped my nails down with rubbing alcohol and applied two coats of nail strengthener. Then, I buffed my natural nails with a 240 grit nail buffer. Next, I applied Apres pH Bonder (dehydrator) and Primer, before I glued on my nails using the new glue by BTArtBox.
I let my nails dry for at least an hour before I get my hands wet. For best results, I do my nails right before bed so the glue and fully dry and lock in before I get my hands wet.
I always use regular nail glue to apply my nails, which allows me to reuse my nails if I want to. You could also apply these nails with gel nail glue, which needs to be cured under a nail lamp. This of course, means you can’t reuse the nails, as you’d have to soak them off.
Once the glue is completely dry, I like to apply some cuticle oil. This time I used the Nutri Forte Cuticle Oil BTArtBox sent me, and it’s feels so rich and luxurious. My skin felt super soft after I applied this, so I’ll be keeping this in my rotation.
