In honor of Black History Month, I wanted to highlight some black-owned fashion brands you should know. From luxury to fast fashion and even lingerie, here are some black-owned fashion brands you should be checking for.
5 Black-Owned Fashion Brands You Should Know
1) Hanifa
Hanifa is a black-owned luxury fashion brand that has been making waves in the industry. From their beautiful designs (like the Miya Cardigan Dress, which I purchased recently) to their innovative virtual fashion show. Simply put, nobody is putting it down like Hanifa. Every time they drop a collection, I have a new wishlist. Check out Hanifa for fun and fabulous pieces that make you feel fly, fierce, and fabulous.
2) Telfar
Designed by Telfar Clemens (a Liberian-American fashion designer), his shopping bag design quickly became the IT bag. Made of artificial leather and available in every color under the sun, the Telfar bag is super versatile. They also recently collaborated with UGG. Every time they restock, they sell out immediately. Personally, I’m still trying to get my hands on a Telfar bag (I got outfits planned), ideally in bubblegum pink.
3) The Carter Brand
I love statement-making graphic T’s, and The Carter Brand has some fly designs that are put on for the culture. I had heard about them on social media and purchased a few from their booth when I attended Essencefest a couple of years ago. The Carter Brand has a lot of fun apparel and accessories that are easy to style and send a clear message: we are rooting for everybody black.
4) Love, Vera
If you’re looking for a black-owned lingerie brand to try, check out Love, Vera. They have a beautiful selection of lingerie and robes (pictures not included, so this post isn’t NSFW), along with a curvy collection, so they cater to all sizes. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you might want to get those orders in.
5) Sorella Boutique
Sorella Boutique is a black-owned fast-fashion boutique, reminiscent of the likes of Fashion Nova and Pretty Little Thing. They offer a lot of cute basics, going-out dresses, and loungewear.
Honorable Mention
If you’re looking for more black history month apparel, I wanted to take the time to highlight a new collection at Target. Their “Black Beyond Measure” collection is in celebration of Black History Month.
I purchased the top that I’m wearing in this post from that collection, and they also have some more great T’s with messages celebrating black culture.
They’ve also curated a collection of books and music by black authors and artists, along with a selection of greeting cards. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in Target and definitely picked up a few things from it.
