I wanted to try something new for the summer, and I felt like a cute curly crochet hairstyle was the move. Since I don’t really braid, my sister (who is also a super-talented artist) hooked me up with this crochet hairstyle. I wanted something where the front half of my hair is braided down, and the rest is big curly crochet hair. Check out my TikTok below to see how it came out!
The Hair Colors We Used
For this color blend, my sister mixed all of the hair in colors: 1B, 27, and 613.
Pre-Stretched Braiding Hair For The Front
We did a mix of skinny feed-in braids, and medium-sized butterfly braids. For this, we used 3X 301 Pre-Stretched Braiding Hair by Freetress. This hair was $6.99 at my local beauty supply store, and they have it on Sam’s Beauty for $5.99. You can also get it on Amazon for $9.99, if you need it ASAP.
I was able to use the leftover hair from a previous style (and I still have some left LOL), so I think you would only need to get one package per color you plan to use. If you’re going to do one color, one package would be enough.
Curly Crochet Hair
For the curly crochet portion of my hair we used 18″ FreeTress Beach Curl Hair. It took four packs of hair to cover the rest of my head. We didn’t trim it, as I love length. My sister also used some of this curly hair to finish my medium butterfly braids so they blend well into the rest of my hair (see my TikTok below).
I also got this hair at my local beauty supply store, but it’s available on Amazon for $9, and Sam’s Beauty for $5.99.
Other Hair Supplies Needed
My sister used hair beaders to crochet the curly hair into my hair (wayyy gentler than the crochet hooks from back in the day!). I got some for $1 each at my local beauty supply, but I found a pack of 10 for $5 on Amazon. She also used some the Shine n’ Jam Extra Hold Conditioning Gel on my hair to help her braid it. Last but not least we used some of our trusty Lotta Body Wrap Me Foaming Mousse to help define the curls on this hair.
When I go to sleep at night, I just part the curly hair into two sections and twist them up under a jumbo bonnet.
