Now that I’m a DIY nail girlie, I needed a better storage solution for my nail supplies. I wanted a cute pink nail cart, but when I looked at some options online they were a bit outside my budget. While scrolling on TikTok I came across this tutorial by @shu.shu.56 which inspired me to make my own. Thanks to some coupons and a rewards voucher from Michael’s Craft Store, I got my cart for $7. Check out my TikTok below to watch how I made my DIY pink nail cart!
Storage Cart
I got this clear 10-drawer rolling storage cart from Michael’s Craft Store. Regular price they’re $49.99, but they’re currently on sale for $29.99. Michael’s also had a 15% off sale items coupon when I bought mine. I was able to use that with my $20 Michael’s rewards voucher. This is why I always sign up for the free rewards programs at stores lol.
The drawers at the top of the unit are the biggest, and the ones on the bottom are a bit smaller.
Pros
This storage cart is really easy to put together, and the drawers are pretty roomy. I have a lot of the XCoatTip nails, nail design stuff, etc. that I was able to organize perfectly.
Cons
My only con is that my mini Beetles gel nail polishes won’t fit in the draws with the nail polish stands they came in. So I wound up having to lay them flat in the draws. While that’s a little annoying, I appreciate how much storage space I have overall.
I also can’t fit my nail lamp and gloves (in the glove box) in the drawers, so I sat them on top of the cart. In the grand scheme of things though, I’m happy about how much space I have to organize everything else.
Spray Paint
I used spray paint to paint the storage cart. For the drawers, I used “Candy Pink” 2X Ultra Cover Gloss Spray paint by Rust-Oleum. This paint contains paint and primer. Also, I sprayed all the drawers before assembling the unit. I picked this paint because it says it bonds to plastic (along with a bunch of other surface types), which is perfect for plastic storage drawers.
How Many Cans Of Paint Did I Use?
To complete the drawers I bought 2 cans of pink spray paint (Retail: $5.98 each at Walmart). I only needed one full can, but I had some spots to touch up which is why I bought a second. You could probably do it all with one full can, as long as you look carefully to be sure you covered the drawers in their entirety. I bought one can of Gold spray paint (Retail: $5.98, Walmart) from the same brand, and I didn’t use all of it.
Paint Process, Mistakes, Etc.
I did two coats of paint on each drawer, and let each coat dry for 20 mins – under an hour (per the instructions). However, I did have some spots I needed to touch up. Also, I had some mishaps when adding additional coats 24 hours later (beyond the two coats lol) which resulted in the spray paint cracking a bit on the front of one of the draws. It’s not a huge deal for me though.
I also accidentally scratched the paint chile, but we move LOL.
I sprayed the metal arms of the unit, the drawer knobs, and the post inserts with gold spray paint.
Seal It!
I did notice that if the draws or the metal part gets scratched, the paint does come off. So I am currently planning to go back over the unit with a sealant.

Overall I’m really happy with how my DIY pink nail cart came out. If I were to do it again, I’d just be more careful when I was spray painting lol.
