I went to the Janet Jackson State of The World Tour in my city, and my sister and I wound up getting upgraded to FRONT ROW FLOOR CENTER SEATS. How? Why? Nobody but Jesus y’all, favor ain’t fair. One minute my sister is dancing to the DJ’s preshow music (mind you were on the top floor. In the booth, in the back, in the corner in the dark. That’s a Flip Wilson reference for all my old school TV Land fans), next minute we’re tapped and escorted to the front row.
Fun fact: I bought tickets last year, and got a refund when she canceled / postponed her tour for a year to start her family. I wound up getting $30 tickets on Groupon for her rescheduled date.

Janet looked AMAZING. Body snatched, hair slicked, moves on point, glowing and radiating black girl magic. She sang all her hits, and I GOT MY LIFE. She also sang to me, we had a moment y’all. I melted.
If you follow me on Snapchat or IG (I’m FlyFierceFab on both, holla at me), you saw this all play out along with my getting ready for the event.
(it was on sale for $15 in store) – H&M | Shoes: Old from Lola Shoetique. This is the most similar style I could find. Once again S/O to my sister @sades_shots on IG and her iPhone + for coming through with the fiyah pics.
I originally peeped the dress that I wore on Fashion Nova, when it was on their coming soon page. It immediately reminded me of that black latex dress Kim K wore during fashion week. I ordered it as soon as it dropped, and I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to wear it. Auntie Janet’s concert fit the bill.
At first I was going to wear a Rhythm Nation tee, that I copped last year at Forever 21…but I wanted to SLAY haha (and I’m glad I did, because they showed me and my sister on the big screen all night). I wanted to serve something fun and glam, yet tough and kinda edgy. This dress kind of reminds me of Janet’s look on the cover of her Discipline album.
As a wiggy, when I’m planning a look I also plan my hair. The color and style bring the look together for me. I wanted to do long straight black hair, and try out the bobby pin trend that’s been going on for a minute (I picked up these gold bobby pins from H&M as well). I decided to wear one of my go-to wigs, the Sensationnel Stocking Cap Quality Yaki 30″ in 1B. I have an old review on it here.
Overall I had an amazing time. Janet is an icon and a legend. If you ever get a chance to see her live, go and get your life!
