When it comes to perfume, I’m pretty picky. It’s rare that I’m in the beauty section of a store, and smell a perfume that screams my name. I like sweet scents, along with warm florals, and sometimes slightly masculine scents. Over the past year, I built up my perfume collection a little bit, as I was on a quest to find myself a grown and sexy signature scent. I’ve come a long way from Love Spell and Britney Spears Fantasy back in the day.
Here are 3 of my top Grown & Sexy perfumes:
1) Tom Ford Velvet Orchid
Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid is my new grown & sexy signature scent. This is the perfume that I usually pull out for special occasions and date nights. It’s a warm floral with keynotes of sandalwood, Italian bergamot, rum extraction, and black orchid. It also has notes of vanilla, honey, and myrrh. This perfume is a true warm floral, that doesn’t smell straight up floral (which is off-putting to me). As it’s an Eau de Parfum, I find that this scent lasts for quite a long time on me.
2) Aquolina Pink Sugar
If you like sweet scents, like REALLY sweet scents, this one is for you. This perfume is the one that I get complimented most on when I wear it (people always ask me for the name of it). It smell’s very much like sugary sweet desserts in a bakery and has top notes of cotton candy, raspberry, orange, and strawberry. While this perfume is sweet, I don’t find it to be overwhelming as it works well with my body chemistry. I’ve found Pink Sugar on a pretty regular basis in TJMAXX, and on Groupon as well so it’s fairly easy to find at an affordable price. This is my signature everyday perfume, and while this scent is sweet it’s certainly not childish. Anytime I’ve worn this on a date, I’ve been pulled closer for a better whiff of what I was wearing. That’s all I can say since my momma gon’ read this.
3) YSL Black Opium
YSL Black Opium is a pretty popular perfume, and there are a few different versions. I prefer the OG version, and Sephora has it categorized with the warm & spicy scents which are my jam. It has key notes of vanilla (a common note in all the scents that I like), black coffee, and white flowers. Much like with any scent, I recommend that you try it on and see how it mixes with your body chemistry. There have been times where I’ve tried a scent that smelled great on the sample card, but not so great on my body. You can also get a mini rollerball version of this perfume for $29 at Sephora if you just wanna try it out for a while without fully committing to a full-sized bottle. If you’ve already tried it an like it, there’s a gift set with the full-sized, a mini, and the coordinating body lotion on sale for $112 during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
Bonus Tip:
If you’re looking for inexpensive perfumes that smell similar to higher-end perfumes, check out Zara’s perfume selection! I have a couple from there that I love, however a lot of the scents are limited edition so if you snooze you lose.
