Happy Fall Y’all! It’s officially the first day of Fall, and my wardrobe is kinda-sorta ready haha. I’ve been keeping an eye on the fall fashion trends for 2020, and making lists of what I need in my closet. The weather shifted rather quickly in my area, so I’ve already put away most of my summer clothes in an effort to quickly tranisiton my closet.
My focus when shopping for a new season isn’t just trying to buy whatever the new trend is but looking for pieces that I genuinely love, fit well, and also hit on some of the trends. Being that fall is my favorite season to dress for, I’m going to be cranking out a lot of fall fashion content for you guys. I wanted to kick things off with 5 of 2020 fall fashion trends that are easy to wear and work into your current wardrobe. Here we go:
5 Fall Fashion Trends
1) Olive Green
Jumpsuit: HM (Old) | Camouflage Bow Mules: PNK Elephant | Purse: Zara
Olive green is one of those colors that always seem to trend for fall, as it’s an earth tone neutral and those colors always make a strong comeback for fall. There are quite a few ways you can style this trend, whether you choose to make this color the focal point of your outfit like I did with this jumpsuit, or if you choose to buy an item in this color and style it with other earth tone neutrals (tans, camels, browns, etc.). Bonus points if you work metallic gold accents in there too.
My jumpsuit is no longer available online at H&M, but here are some similar options from Lucky Brand and Fashion Nova.
2) Sweats / Loungewear
Sweatsuit: JLuxLabel Unisex Collection | Heels: Simmi London | Purse: Ego Official
With everybody spending more time at home due to the pandemic, sweats and loungewear have been increasingly popular. This is a trend that we will continue to see for fall, and expect to see more sweatsuit options in bold colors and patterns that scream “not your average sweatsuit”. My favorite way to wear sweats is by wearing a well-styled sweatsuit to serve looks that look too fly to lounge in.
The key to this is to wear sweats in good condition, that fit well (not too oversized or baggy), and coordinate (I love a good set). I then like to dress it up with a cute pair of heels or white platform sneakers, jewelry (rhinestone studs, hoop earrings, or a nice necklace), and a cute purse.

3) Brown Monochrome Looks + 4) Leather = 1 Fly, Fierce, and fabulous look.
I love a good brown monochromatic moment. I really like how camel and brown shades look on my skin tone, and there’s nothing sexier to me than a fire nude heel that’s actually my shade of nude. Monochromatic looks, in general, are a trend for fall, but the secret sauce this season seems to be looks featuring shades of brown.

I also really love (faux) leather pieces, especially when I can find them in colors other than black and in different styles. I fell in love with these brown leather pants that I bought at Zara, and I have a bunch of looks that I want to style them with. I’ve bought some leather shorts, a blazer, and I have my eye on a leather dress as well that I can’t wait to wear.
Notice how I combined the brown monochromatic trend, with the leather trend. I love finding ways to combine trends, and still manage to put together a look that doesn’t feel dated / too trendy or look like I’m trying too hard.
5) Fringe
I feel like we started to see fringe become a trend late last fall / early spring, when a lot of western style pieces were en vogue. Fringe is still here rocking with us, and popping up on jackets (leather and denim), and shackets (shirt jackets).
Out of the 5, I would have to say that leather is my favorite fall fashion trend for this season. What’s yours? Let me know in the comments below!
Stylishly Yours,
Theresa Seyi
